Genuine shell cordovan is a scarce commodity. While most leathers come from cows, genuine shell cordovan comes from a horse. The "shell" is the tough subcutaneous layer that covers the posterior. Each horse provides two shells, which is just enough for a pair of shoes. Genuine Shell Cordovan is the most non-porous leather known, and is not constructed of strands.

The unique physical attributes of shell cordovan means two things: it is the only leather that will not wrinkle, and it is inherently water-resistant. Its lustrous glossy finish, great durability, and the ability to readily conform and retain shape distinguish genuine Shell Cordovan. We are able to keep the strap both thin and narrow because of the great strength of the material. It makes a great match for a black enamel M6 TTL, MP and other black glossy finish cameras.

Today, high volume production and high-tech machines are powerless to manufacture a strap of this quality. Old school handwork is the only way to produce it. The shells are put through a natural, vegetable tanning process, then hand-stained, glazed, and finished. No detail is left undone by the artisans at A&A who employ these ancient skills to fashion great leather straps.
